184th Conference of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints
LDS 184th Annual General Conference Recap
Yesterday I attended the first 2 sessions of Conference at our Stake Centre in Porirua and I was thrilled to share in the sustaining votes of our dear Prophet President Thomas S. Monson, his 2 counsellors Henry B. Eyring and Dieter F. Uchtdorf plus the Quorum of the 12 Apostles as well as all of the other leaders of the Church as set down.
When I first joined the Church 33 years ago, the membership was nowhere near the 15,820,028 that is recorded in the Church records as at yesterday. And silently I knew that we are making a presence in the world, which every year grows at a rate of growth that does make an impact on the world and our voices are being heard. It’s a wonderful feeling to be part of such a huge family, even though wherever we stand we may be the only one in the midst of the radius that emanates from our particular spot – there are many others like us dotted around the world to whom we may connect to through our prayers and thoughts.
There was a great emphasis on the work of family history and I sat quietly thinking about all the many thousands of names I have for our branches of the numerous trees I have gathered over my 33 years of service in this particular area. Up until a few months ago, there was no one in my close family who was interested in the work I have so diligently gathered. However, suddenly there was a niece-in-law and her daughter – 2 generations of family who wanted to help me with the practical side of the work needing to be done. And then my son raised his head and said “Here am I Mum, please show me what you are doing as I feel the need to be part of this great work as well.”
This past few months has given me such joy to be able to know that when my time is done here on this earth that the work will go on – not in the direction I thought it would go, and at least a direction that is still close to my heart. And the interest expressed by these 3 young people spurred me on to do more so that what I leave behind will be worthy of their follow up actions in their own research.
I love the Lord. I am so grateful that I have a living Prophet who I can see and hear at will. I am thankful that Heavenly Father sent His Son Jesus Christ to atone for my sins so that I could progress beyond the realms of this world when it is my time to do so. Right now, I am grateful for the whisperings from the other side of the veil that help me with this great work. I am so grateful for the scriptures I hold so dear as I continue to search them every day. I am happy and grateful for prayers that are answered immediately, and prayers that take a little more time to work out. I am grateful to be able to work with spiritual people every day in the work that I set myself in order to be able to sustain myself while I live here upon the earth. There is so much hope in my life and in my attitude. I am grateful for all of these things. And I share them with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
