Los Altos High School has at last found a way to honour a well-loved and most deserving educator who served for 20 years from the very beginning days in 1955 until 1975 when he retired. When I first met Dushan “Dude” Angius Jr. during my AFS scholarship year in 1968-1969 he was into his 3rd year of his 10 years of being the Principal of the school. Previous to that he had served in many capacities as a favourite coach, teacher and principal – chairman of the physical education department, director of athletics, director of student activities and counselor. Now at the tender age of 85 he is so happy to know of the outcome of all of his fans around the world lobbying the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District Board of Trustees to have his name given to the gymnasium. It was a unanimous decision and the official dedication will take place on the 3rd May contributing to the preservation of his memory for many generations to come.
I know that I, and most likely many of his former students are still profiting from the lessons, talents and integrities that came with Dude Anguis and what he represented during his tenure at the high school. He still remains a longtime associate of the Rotary Club of Los Altos and founder of the international organization – the Rotary AIDS Project which was prompted by the AIDS related death of son Steve.
